Requirements

The successful candidates must have a MSc degree (or equivalent) by the (negotiable) starting date. The positions are open to candidates from all countries. The research will be carried out in the framework of the Netherlands Research School for Astronomy (NOVA).

Applicants should provide the following:

  • cover letter summarizing the applicant's research experience and specifying which PhD projects they are interested in pursuing, including a brief motivation for each. The cover letter should also include a separate page added to the end of the cover letter with a figure (from the applicant's work or the literature) with an explanation of its relevance and significance. This will be used to determine your skills in science research communication. The figure and explanation together are limited to 1 page.
  • up-to-date curriculum vitae
  • list of university courses taken and transcripts of grades obtained (i.e., original transcript and also a translated version if not in English or Dutch -- no need to have it notarized). In converting grades from other systems to the Dutch system, we request that applicants use this web tool
  • contact information for at least two referees
